In recent years, the world in general has begun to accept Spiritism as commonplace in society. People have started to let their guard down against such influences found in movies, computer software, music, Children’s books, and in activities such as Ouija boards, hypnotism, psychic readings, astrology, etc. So-called “channelers” are on mainstream television attempting to communicate with dead humans; the New Age Movement is very popular; and groups like Wicca are exerting their “rights of religious freedom.”

But the Word of God clearly tells us who is behind the influence of Spiritism. Apostle Paul says it is from “the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:12). Satan and the Fallen Angels (demons) are behind this activity, blinding the minds of the people (2 Corinthians 4:4). This might lead some to wonder . . .

We must go all the way back to Noah’s time to see where the Fallen Angels came from. In Genesis 6:1, 2 we are told: “When men [humans] began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of God [the angels] saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married of them they chose.” From these verses we learn that between the time Adam and Eve were cast out of the garden until Noah’s flood, some of the heavenly angels became enticed with sinful desires and exercised their ability to materialize fleshly human bodies in order to marry human women.

The result of their illicit union with human women is stated in Genesis 6:4: “There were giants [Hebrew “Nephilim”] in the earth in those days, and also after that, when the sons of God [angels] came unto the daughters of men [humans] and they bare children to them [a hybrid, mutant race, part human, part angelic], the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.” The offspring of the angels are called “Nephilim.” They were all male giants, and they were physically and mentally superior to humans, but they were violent and immoral and tyrannized the world (Genesis 6:11-13). The world became so corrupt due to their influence that God intervened by causing the Flood to destroy all except Noah and his family. The offspring of the fallen angels (the Nephilim) were destroyed in this flood. But the fallen angels, the fathers of the Nephilim, de-materialized into the earth’s atmosphere, where they remain to this day.

Jude 6 and 7 tell us about the condition of the fallen angels today: “And the angels which kept not their first estate [spiritual, invisible bodies], but left their own habitation [the spirit realm] he hath reserved in everlasting [age-lasting] chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.” These fallen spirits have been held under restraint, “chains,” since the Flood. But since we have entered chronologically into the millennium, the chains are being gradually loosened, resulting in the fallen angels having more activity in the world.

We are given further insight into the demons’ condition in 2 Peter 2:4, 5: “For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell [Greek “tartaroo”], and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment…” The Greek word tartaroo, which is translated “hell” in English, denotes an act, not a place, and it refers to God’s confining these fallen angels to earth’s atmosphere. They were no longer allowed to return to the heavenly realm of God.

Many today don’t believe in evil spirits and regard the Bible narratives of Jesus and the Apostles casting out evil spirits as fictitious. But the Scriptures plainly tell us that Spiritism played a prominent role in Jesus’ work at his first advent so that in the four Gospels there are 42 references to these demons [mistranslated "devils" in our Common Version.] In the Old Testament, God strictly prohibited wizards, witches, and others who proposed to hold intercourse with the dead in Israel (Lev. 19:31). Apostle Paul warned in 2 Cor. 11:14, 15 that “Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.” We, therefore, need to be on guard against having anything to do with Spiritism and should have a proper fear to investigate what God has forbidden. To many, curiosity is the trap. Before they are aware of it, they are snared in the deception. Many parents think it’s all in “good fun” and allow their children to freely let their minds roam into the “fictitious spirit world adventures,” unaware of the danger they are being exposed to.

The fallen angels are deceiving many to believe that the dead are not dead, but are actually more alive than ever. Those deceived by this think they are communicating with the dead, when actually it is the demons who are impersonating the dead. The fallen angels are continuing to use Satan's original lie to Mother Eve in the Garden of Eden: "Ye shall not surely die" (Genesis 3:4). Jesus told us in John 8:44 that Satan is the father of all lies. But we are told in Hebrews 6:18 that “it is impossible for God to lie.” And His Word tells us the truth, that the dead are dead and cannot re-live except by divine power that will be exercised in God’s Kingdom for their awakening from the death sleep in the resurrection.

The Scriptures forewarn us that we are no match intellectually for the wicked spirits and need to give heed to the protections afforded us in the counsels of the Lord's Word. The good news is that these evil Fallen Angels have no power over a strong will to resist them. Every human CAN resist Satan and the Fallen Angels with God’s help.

James 4:7, 8 tells us, “Submit yourselves therefore unto God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw night unto you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners, and purify your hearts ye double minded.”
